Adult Upgrading Instructor ENGL 050 / English 12 - Term

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a term Instructor to teach Adult Upgrading courses (ENGL 050 / English 12). This appointment will commence April 7, 2026 and end June 20, 2026 (subject to enrolment and funding) for up to 120 instructional hours per course. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale with a range of $37.55 to 55.31 per hour plus pay in lieu of vacation and benefits.

Duties: Based at one of our campuses (Smithers, Terrace, or Prince Rupert), the Instructor will be responsible to facilitate learning for students, ensuring successful completion of ENGL 050 (English 12). This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities. This course will be delivered online.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline
  • A Provincial Teaching Certificate or a Provincial Instructor's Diploma
  • A Master’s Degree in a related discipline or in Adult Education is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an Adult Basic Education / Career and College Prep program (preference will be given to those with experience teaching Advanced/Provincial levels) is preferred
  • Experience teaching using experiential place-based pedagogy
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and experience in the subject areas. As a team player and learner-centered instructor, experience should demonstrate excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
